Wee Steps to Education, a wee tutoring service is committed to making your
child’s first years of school a rewarding, confident and
exciting experience. It was founded by Gisele Price, a special
education teacher with 15 years experience with special
needs children. Based on her hands-on experience, Gisele
realized that basic learning skills were not being learned
by some students. Students were unable to process the
elements of education as we know it. Some kids learned to
adapt while others faced failure and disappointment.
Gisele
decided to start from the beginning. She began
observing pre school and kindergarten children and watched
some of them struggling to sit still, pay attention to the
lesson, or follow directions without repeated support from
the teacher. Some of these kids were already repeating
kindergarten and a year behind their friends. Rather than
see any more kids continue to be held back or face the
frustration of always being behind their peers, she wants to
work with parents to help identify and try to correct these
problems.
The earlier we
start the better it will be so they can be a part of the class from
day one.
Many learning difficulties your child
may have while in school could be solved earlier rather than later.

We
can not solve every child’s problems, but we can help
identify things that need attention and work on them.
How do we do it?
A teacher comes to
your home or the facility where your child is enrolled. We
observe the child and play with him/her for a while, assess
a few points: follow direction, play, academics, response
time, eye contact, motor skills. We meet with your child,
his teacher or caregiver and one or both parents. We
make a needs assessment according to observations and the
information the teachers and caregivers give us. We then
set up sessions to work with the student. Since each child
is different, each need will be different. We will also
create a plan so you can work with your child at home.
This is a family affair. Everyone involved will need to
work with the child and give positive reinforcement that he
or she is doing the right thing at the right time. We will
all be using the same cues so the child will recognize and
associate them and be able to take them with him to school.
